Why girls summer camp began?
 We asked the person in charge of the Japan Keirin Association.

He is Organaizer of Girls summer camp.

“Girls Summer Camp had been organized to develop Japanese woman cycling. We organized this in 2010 for the first time. It counts 6times this year.

In 2012 professional track cycling “GIRLS KEIRIN” has started.

And Olympic Games are going to be held in 2020.

In Japan the woman cyclists’ registration to Japan Cycling Federation is increasing rapidly.

Taking this opportunity, we are planning to promote Japanese woman cycling.

We assign top coaches in Japan to each group.

Campers are divided into 3 groups according to their skills and experiences.

1 group is prepared for very beginners.

This makes it easier for other sports athletes to transit to cycling.

Japan Keirin School and Japan Cycle sports Center boast outstanding cycling facilities.

The “Girls Summer Camp” making the best use of these facilities and being participated by only girl campers is unlike any other in the world.

GIRLS KEIRIN riders earn about 60thousand dollars a year in average.

And there are riders earning more than 2handred thousand dollars.

Olympic is upcoming in 5years.

Woman cycling in Japan is full of dreams now.

Hope some girls from this camp get medals in the future.''

「ガールズサマーキャンプは、日本の女子自転車競技を強化するために計画されました。2010年より行っており、今年で６回目になります。

2012年にはプロのトラック競技「ガールズケイリン」がスタートしました。

また、2020年にはオリンピックが開催されようとしています。

日本自転車競技連盟への女子競技者の登録数は急速に上がってきており、この絶好の機会に女子自転車競技の振興を促進しようと考えています。

このキャンプでは、日本でもトップクラスのコーチを集め、各グループに配置しています。参加者は、スキルや経験によって、３つのグループに分かれています。そのなかの１グループは、競技経験のない初心者のためのグループです。これにより、他競技からの転向を容易にしています。

日本競輪学校、日本サイクルスポーツセンターの施設は、自転車競技としては、世界有数の施設であると自負しています。この施設をフルに使い、女子だけで行われるサマーキャンプは、世界でも類のないキャンプだと思っています。

ガールズケイリンでは、選手は平均でおよそ７００万円の賞金を獲得しており２３００万円以上獲得する選手もいます。

東京オリンピックも近づいてきています。日本の女子自転車競技は、今、夢がいっぱいです。近い将来、このキャンプからメダリストが出ることを願っています」
